Alright, now go ahead and book your senior session with me.

Done? Amazing, I can’t wait to meet you!

Now, let’s skip to the good part…

The Best Locations for High School Senior Photos

I’ve been a high school senior photographer in Fargo, ND, and Moorhead, MN for a while now, and what I’ve learned through my extensive experience is that location is key.

Having insider knowledge and knowing secret spots for clients is what sets photographers apart. Helping match clients with the best locations is an art—much like taking the pictures themselves! And I feel like I’ve cracked the code.

Like most things, some locations will work well for some and not for others. But when you hire a photographer who listens to your input and has the resources to find you an epic spot, that’s where the magic happens.

On that note, these are my top 5 personal favorite places to take high school senior photos—whether you’re in Fargo, ND, Moorhead, MN, or elsewhere!

City Overview

In my opinion, there’s nothing like a cityscape. Rooftop locations offer up an amazing opportunity to get a skyline view of city buildings. When it’s not too windy, and the light is just right, these are great spots to get the best pictures.

Depending on the time of day, I frequent many different rooftop locations in downtown Fargo. Every individual building and view offers a new perspective! Choosing one of your favorite buildings or viewpoints for your high school senior pictures would be a great way to add to your personality. It isn’t as obvious to others, but it would feel more special to you!

River and Rapids

Okay, yes, the Red River can be (and look) rather dirty, but I have a way around that… I’ve found a couple of spots where the rapids flow over the rocks—creating an absolutely beautiful backdrop. If being by water is your scene, this is the place to be!

Riverscapes often provide amazing other spots for photographs—like amongst trees or in the grasses. It’s an opportunity to really embrace your nature-loving side and dive right in!

Rustic and Industrial

Old brick, rod iron, cement, and chipped paint? Sign me up. I’m a huge fan. Whenever I see buildings with any of these features, I feel giddy. It makes you think about what they’ve seen and how many lives they’ve lived.

I feel like these features of buildings and architecture add so much personality and character. These types of looks create textures and dimensions in images—taking you and your photos to the next level!

Let’s face it, there’s just something about pretty flowers. They’re so refreshing.

My top picks for those who are looking for a major floral impact are spring orchards, greenhouses, summer wildflowers, and sunflower fields.

To be completely honest, tracking down flower fields isn’t my favorite thing to do—they can be hit-and-miss with the look and feel. But for my clients, I’ll do it! Because when the flowers cooperate, it is absolutely stunning!

Most people think of going outdoors when taking high school senior pictures. But since I am more than a natural light photographer, I love shooting in places where others can not.

When I bring my own lights on set, we can create unique shots in locations that better showcase my subject’s (you or your teen) personality. For example, we could elevate places like bookstores, theaters, weight rooms, gyms, and anywhere that you like!

My absolute fave of all fave locations? Downtown and cityscapes. Urban vibes and styles are my personal favorite. I also love indoor shoots using studio lights that I can manipulate to highlight you best! Plus, an added bonus of no wind to compete with. Unless we want to go full-on Beyoncé or Mariah Carey, which I’m ALL about!
