Booking a senior photographer?
Don't make these 5 mistakes!
Senior pictures are a milestone! Make sure you get it right first the time. The last thing you want is to go through the entire process and then hear or say, “I don’t like my senior pictures.” Here a 5 mistakes that I’ve seen made when booking a senior photographer.
1. Choosing based on price.
Of course, price is going to be a contender. Just like the American tattoo artist, Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins says, “Good work ain’t cheap, cheap work ain’t good.” That kind of sums it up.
2. Going with an amateur.
Everyone has to start somewhere. Heck, even I was an amateur at one point. I completely agree on having an amateur take random photo sessions, but when it comes to a milestone session, like senior pictures, you don’t want to be the “practice”. These will be the pictures that stick with you for years to come, make sure they’re done by a professional.
3. No pre-consultation.
If the photographer doesn’t offer a pre-consultation to help direct and stylize your session, then you’re leaving your entire session up to chance. Working with your photographer prior to your session is one of the best parts of the planning. You have your own ideas and your photographer should help guide you.
4. Waiting too long to book.
Summer is here, you’re loving the nice weather, and summer plans are already filling your calendar. Then you see your friends posting behind the scenes of their senior sessions….wait, you haven’t booked yet!?!? Most photographers start filling their summer calendars in the spring. Book your senior session no later than May if you want to get a good date and most importantly, make sure your photographer is available!!
5. Not doing enough research.
All I ask, is be diligent when researching your photographer. Ask questions!! What’s the process of their photoshoot? When will you see images? Can they help with printing & albums? Do they offer hair & makeup? Most importantly, chat with them prior and make sure your personalities work well together. I’ll be honest when I say that I don’t take all inquiries. Some times it’s just not a good fit. I want to make sure that you and I connect. That connection will determine the success of the session.
